Sparx Ripleys Pet Painting 3D Alien Print time-lapse

Hi and welcome to my brand new YouTube channel Gamers Web 3D Printing News. Here I will post videos of my prints, views and such on upcoming and current Kickstarters and also Patreons that deal with 3D printing, in particular 3D printing for gaming and collecting.

This is my first ever video for the channel and the website will be going live very soon, so lets jump right in.
Sparx: Ripleys Pet Time-Lapse
This is a new style of video for me so please bear with me while I iron out the kinks and get to grips with it. In this video I put down the base colours for the first part of my Ripleys Pet 3D print from Sparx (link is below for the file). I saw this come up on a Facebook ad last week and checked it out and it was really cheap so grabbed it and a couple of others. The file features Ellen Ripley from Alien/Aliens movies, scantily dressed and in the loving embrace of a Xenomorph (or Alien in old money) from the movies. The detail is excellent and it printed out really nicely with no visible issues or problems as far as I can see.

The whole kit was printed at 50% of normal scale on my Elegoo Mars and done in three batches of around 6 hours each. I printed two copies of each element of the STL as one of theses kits is going to my friend Kay from weekaysminis on Instagram. Clean up was pretty much straight forward and the entire kit was printed at the standard settings for the Mars and using ABS Like Grey Resin which is my go to source for prints.

After assembling the model I primed both the Xenomorph and Ripley in Vallejo White Surface Primer. I will cover Ripley in a future video, but for now will concentrate on the big lad!

The entire model was airburshed using my KK Moon 180 airbursh with a mixture of Windsor and Newton Black Ink and Vallejo Black Surface Primer (70/30 ratio). I tried to leave some of the white showing through but the effect I was going for didn't work that well so ended up giving the whole model and head two thin coats.

Once dried I moved onto the base coat for the main body and head and used Vallejo US Flat Brown (not Flat Earth as I mentioned in the video) with about an equal amount of Vallejo Wood Grain added into the mix. The Wood Grain is a transparent paint and is great for things like this.

Once the areas where touch dry, I went over them again with just Vallejo US Flat Brown.

Finally I touched up the top of the aliens head using Vallejo Black Surface Primer.

So with the base coats done, I can move on in the next video to painting the details on the model, before I move onto Ripley herself.

I am very new to airbrushing and have only been doing this for just over a month now and learning as I go along. YouTube has so many talented people on it and its a great pleasure to watch and learn from some of the best out there (links to channels below). With the world in the state that it is in right now in 2020 more and more people are discovering hobbies such as 3D printing, much like myself, and I hope that you will join me on my journey.

You can purchase Ripleys Pet from Sparx store on CG Trader (an excellent site for some very talented artists) and the model comes with several options which include a second head for the alien and three torsos for Ripley herself to allow you to build the model in three ways. Some of the options are NSFW so I decided to go for the classic pin-up look instead so I can share.
