It's been two years since my last YT video. Sorry. We've been busy. I retired and we moved to Hawaii. I've been spending time learning about the Big Island and doing a ton of house/yard chores. Also, I spent time setting up my shop but we all know, shops are never really "done."

The thing about Maker YT videos is there are two things we create. The project build itself but also the film. (I use the word film because a video is just captured moving images. A film tells a story.) There are Makers that build an awesome project and also tell a great story. It's a skill I want to master. I'm not there yet but it is an iterative process. I hope to keep improving.

Case in point, this simple restoration project wasn't as easy as I first anticipated. I ran into several challenges many of which were not covered in this film. Viewers have a finite attention span (that is why Ted Talks are less than 18 minutes.) So it's a balancing act of telling the story before viewers drift off into thinking about donuts. For every one challenge I covered in this film, there was at least another that I left out.

Also, I apologize for the video banding in some shots. I have a "new" camera and am forcing myself to learn manual mode. I didn't notice the banding until way later. (BTW-Us Makers need a camera designed specifically for the making process.)

So bare with me as I learn how to tell better stories. If you have questions, please leave them in the Comments. BTW - I have been posting Instagram videos: Hawaii, island life and build videos. If you're interested, follow me @garagemonkeysan.

Mahalo for watching and a big thanks to my brother-in-law who manages to snag awesome garbage for my builds.

Peace out.

P.S. - Piet Mondrian influence comes from a Jr. College class I took decades ago. The professor used the Mondrian style to practice composition and balance. Using construction paper, the students had to create their own Mondrian. It isn't as simple as it looks even when playing with basic shapes and colors. Mondrian has stuck with me ever since. Wish I could remember that professor's name...even though he gave me a B (I failed to turn in my soapstone sculpture). I learned a lot in his class.

Thank you @derekfrommalden for the recommendation on the paint can shaker. It is a must have tool.
