Resin Art with a 3D Printer.

For those who know my channel you'll know that I love to do wire pours - pours of either resin or acrylic within wire guides. I find it gives the really cool randomness of acrylic pouring some well needed structure and the bright deep transparent colors of resin art some boundaries as it often mixes a bit randomly and loses something. Anyway I was looking for a way to take this to the next level and I figured there is only so far you can go with wires. before they are unmanageable. I'll still do wire pours, but when I want very even lines or tighter spacing or lots of junctions or just intersecting shapes that you cant do with wires, I'm going to use my 3D printer to make the form instead. The time taken to model the waves was not insignificant, but I 'll have the model for ever and can reprint as often as I'd like and do different colors or mediums.
When I came to sticking the pattern down I used a bit too much resin and I did have some wicking up. All part of the learning process, but you can see in the final piece that where the fill area is narrow the clear "stick down" resin has been drawn up to fill those areas making the color density of the colored resins lower. Next time i'll use less. It also took a lot of time and accuracy to fill the tiny gaps (as you'll see from all my mistakes) so lesson 2 is that I'll make the forms a little bigger next time.
Any way, this was my first attempt at this and so the next one should be awesome! Hopefully you like this one too :-) Please let me know if you'd like to see more of this type of resin pour in the comments below.

Happy Pouring!
