Who doesn’t love a cool DIY project, right? That’s why, in our series exploring the best of the best DIY projects, we present to you a model car build, and not just an ordinary one, this is a model car project of the iconic DeLorean DMC-12 from the Back to the Future trilogy.

All you have to do is keep your eyes on the screen while we restore this model car. We’ll begin right from the assembly up to the finishing touches like patina effects and weathering paint application.

As with any model car project, we’ll need certain bits and bobs. Obviously, the main thing we require is the DMC-12 model kit. You can either buy a pre-made kit off the shelf or 3D print it yourself. For the rest of the required items and our recommendations, along with a more in-depth step-by-step guide, check out the link below.

Now, let’s get to it!

First up on our list is preparing the kit for assembly, and these kits (especially injection molded ones) tend to have imperfections from the manufacturing process around the edges.

Gather your tools around and make careful work of it. Miss any extras and it will impact your final results on this model car build, likewise, cut too much and your project will feel flawed. Go watch the video for a bigger picture.
