3D printing has opened so many doors, not only for rapid prototyping but also for producing actual production ready parts at a decent volume. Within a few hours, a fully custom part can be sketched, printed, and be in your hands. This custom jig allows for precise and consistent shaping of our compact stainless steel knives. No other existing jig on the market would have been able to do what we needed it to do. The best part is that multiple jigs can be printed for batch production of knives. When cleaning and sharpening a knife after it has been heat treated, you can't let it get too hot, otherwise you can jeopardize its hardness. So having multiple jigs enables you to cycle between 5 different knives during sharpening or grinding, so by the time you get back to the first knife, it's back to room temperature. We've found it almost eliminates the chance of overheating blades. Now that's pretty cool!
