CarbonX™ Carbon Fiber PA12 is made using high-modulus carbon fiber and a specialty Nylon 12 (PA12) that 3DXTech chose for it's printability, thermal properties, and chemical resistance.
PA12 is widely used in a variety of industries due to its excellent chemical resistance, low moisture absorption, and wide processing window. This particular formulation ensures very low shrinkage in the printed part, resulting in excellent dimensional stability. This makes this CF-PA12 an excellent choice for tools, fixtures, and jigs.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE THIS MATERIAL IN INDUSTRIES?
Common applications include motor parts, fuel line connectors, coolant pumps, bushings, bearing pads in aircraft engines, charge air coolers, resonators, engine cover components and heat shields, fuel cutoff and water heater manifold valves, connectors, high voltage bushings, motor housings, and headlight components. It’s also often used for Prototypes of car parts, drones, and high durability mechanical components.

WHAT KIND OF MACHINE DO YOU NEED TO PRINT THIS FILAMENT?

Print Temperature: 265-285°C, sometimes up to 310 in our experience.
Bed Temperature: 90-110°C - for adhesive, our Nano Polymer Adhesive works great, this stuff sticks down on the bed very well.
Chamber Temperature: Recommended but not required -- it will definitely help for larger parts and warping.

PA12 absorbs less moisture than standard PA6-based materials (PA6, PA6/66, PA6/69), but it still absorbs moisture and must be dry before printing. Definitely Keep it in a sealed container between uses and dry at 90c for 4-6 hours if it’s exposed to moisture andbecomes too wet to print.

We do have a full drying kit, including the vacuum chamber, at visionminer.com -- it’s the best way we’ve found to get all that moisture out, so your prints don’t get ugly and weak. We’re here to make it easy, and that’s why we ALSO made METAL spools, so you can dry at higher temps, faster. With Nylon, a vacuum chamber helps a TON, so definitely check those out.

BASIC MATERIAL SPECS:
Heat Deflect Temp: 150°C HDT @ 0.45MPa [137°C HDT @ 1.8MPa]
TG: 165 (320)
Melt Point: 325 (617)
Substance: Crystalline
Tensile Strength: 65.6 MPa

BASIC STRENGTH SPECS:

While it’s Tg is around 165 C, it’s Heat Deflect Temp: 150°C , which means it has Excellent strength and stiffness over a wide temperature range - up to 150°C. Continuous Use Temp (10,000 Hrs) of 120°C.

LET’S TALK ABOUT SOME SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Very low moisture absorption, which means it has improved retention of mechanical properties after exposure to humidity over PA6, and it also has Superior chemical resistance PA6. It’s also less dense than it’s companions: 1.16g/cc, it’s lighter by volume than the alternatives. Personally, I’ve noticed that PA12 is a bit more brittle than PA6 -- it’s more beautiful, for sure, but PA6 is a bit tougher in general.
