3D printing a coupler for a beam antenna (timelapse video)

I don't often do videos like this but I thought it was good to do something different.

I am in the process of putting together a beam antenna for 2-metres and 70cm, making it ideal for use on either of those bands for SSB work or for use of the 2/70 FM satellites and the ISS repeater (which I tried with a vertical on the roof of the car without success and a vertical at home).

The boom is made of 2 square sections from old TV aerials removed from the old QTH as they were both redundant, these were stripped down completely to just the booms, a 3D printed coupler was already made for these but this failed as the infill was insufficient, this one was made longer so it fits someway in the booms, the last jobs on this are to drill holes, spray with fixer spray used for charcoal and pencil artwork to act as a waterproof coating, and test fit with bolts through the holes.

This will work out cheaper than a beam antenna from any major manufacturer and possibly even the cheap Ailunce/Retevis ones seen often on Wish and the other usual Chinese websites, especially if I make up my own duplexer in order to allow dual-band operation.

My 3D printer is a Crealty Ender 3 Pro, if you don't have a 3D printer I do recommend one as it has its uses in the Amateur radio (and even CB radio) hobby, choose what your budget allows, there is a learning curve involved with 3D printing but once you get the hang of it it comes to you easy.

I use DesignSpark Mechanical to create 3D designs and use Ultimaker Cura as the slicer to turn the designs into the gcode the 3D printer understands
