A simple water pump which can be home made or printed out by 3D printer is simulated by OpenFOAM. The sliding mesh Arbitrary Mesh Interface (AMI) technique is used in this simulation, with the blade rotates at 1000 RPM.

In civil engineering, water pump is often used in drainage system for floodwater pumping, sewerage system to convey foul water or water supply system for fresh/salt water supply. These pumps are usually big and housed in pumping station, and they are designed and manufactured by pump specialists, e.g. Torishima.

Actually, we can also make our own water pump at home. The youtube link below shows how a submersible pump is made with the help of hand held tools:

With 3D printing, parts of pump can be printed out and assembled easily. Based on the stl file from the link below, a CFD model for this water pump is simulated.
